on May 02, 2022
The 33rd Tehran International Book Fair is making its return this year on May 11. The Head of the Fair, Yaser Ahmadvand, announced that Qatar, a neighbouring country to Iran has been selected as the guest of honour for this year’s massive Iranian literature event.
He pointed out that the selection of the guest of honor for this edition of the Tehran International Book Fair which opens on May 11 and will run by May 21 has been carried out based on a number of criteria. Due to cultural and religious similarities between Iran and Qatar, the neighboring country was selected for the title in this year's fair.
Ahmadvand said: "The first edition which featured a guest of honor (Afghanistan) was the 27th Tehran International Book Fair held in 2014. From then on we had Oman, Russia, Italy, Serbia, and China as the guests of honor,” while stressing that the attendance of the guest of honour will be very influential in reflecting the international aspect of the exhibition.
The International section of TIBF is an appropriate forum for those who have sold the rights of their books to international publishers or intend to do so; those Iranian publishers who have published books in foreign languages for international markets as well as those Iranian publishers and literary agencies interested in purchasing the rights of foreign books for publishing them in Persian in Iran.
Earlier, due to the outbreak of COVID-19, two editions of the Tehran Virtual Book Fair were held for the first time in the country to meet the demands of Iranian publishers, authors, translators, book activists, and of course people.
